  • What is the average class size? - Our student to teacher ratio is 7:1 with a maximum class size of 14 students. ​

  • Is technology used to support teaching and learning at this school? - At Laurel Oak Nature School, there is no available student access to modern technology. We believe that a combination of nature and Montessori materials create the perfect learning environment.

  • Do you utilize behavior charts or similar techniques? - No. We believe that encouraging extrinsic motivations can have negative psychological impacts. These charts do not take into consideration a child’s temperament, developmental stage or emotional needs. 

  • What is the school’s philosophy/approach to homework? - At Laurel Oak Nature School, we believe that childhood is sacred. There is no homework assigned, rather, we hope that you will enjoy time outdoors with your family. 

  • What is the approach toward grades? - We do not provide letter grades to students. Parent-teacher conferences are held annually to discuss the students progress.  

  • Do I have to be homeschooling my child in order to register? - No. By law children ages 6-16 years old are required to satisfy the requirement for compulsory education. This may include one of the following; home education program, public school, charter school, private school or umbrella school/virtual school. We are a "homeschool resource center" and all affected parents are responsible for maintaining records and compliance with the state.
